1: ad lucem
when we move, we take
the first-date couch with us
the matching chairs
and the end tables
to punctuate them
and even though the new house
is the same square footage
as the old house,
the new rooms are shaped
differently, hold
the couch
the chairs
the tables
in a different constellation
that makes it impossible
not to walk into the past
meet ghosts in the dark
bruise
and remember, almost too late,
we’re not the same houses
we used to be
either.
2: ad astra per aspera
in brick-blur
the past outgrew
my pocket
so
I stopped
carrying it with me
and now
I drift
again
toward
stars
