Thought It Was a Dot

Rhoads Stevens

My cousin had a little dot of something on her finger, and she took my palm and put that dot on my palm. I thought the dot was blood because it was red, but then I saw it was shaped like a tiny suit, like red pajamas.

"You pull this on when you want to die," she said and closed my hand.

Rhoads Stevens was born in Baltimore and grew up in Honolulu. Other stories of his are in BOMB and NOON.
