Did your mother teach you to sit like this

Who started it though

How does the uterus feel under the bootheel of a congressional floor

When did you grow hair there

Ask your bones if they give you the permission to squat deeper today

Missy, where did we agree the leg lands in turnout

We want to present an open thigh, don’t we

Don’t give me Vegas, give me grace

If your fingers hurt, carry the groceries like a baby

Baby, can we be more into the sex

What are you doing in the dream where mother is alive

Preeti Vangani is a poet and writer from Mumbai, India based in San Francisco. She is the author of Mother Tongue Apologize (RLFPA Editions, 2019), selected as the winner of RL (India) Poetry Prize. Her work has been published in Threepenny Review, Gulf Coast, Margins among other journals. She is an alumni of and currently teaches in the MFA (Writing) program at University of San Francisco. Her work has received fellowships and support from Ucross, Djerassi,  and the California Center for Cultural Innovation.
